House Concert with KC Shane, Eli Conley, and Briget Boyle

 —  —

Private Home in Berkeley , Berkeley, CA 94707

RESERVATIONS - $20 standard ticket, $10 low income (via venmo @briget-boyle), $40 high income

An intimate night of original music by Singer-Songwriters KC Shane, Eli Conley, and Briget Boyle at a lovely private residence in the hills of North Berkeley. Please note that the venue is not ADA accessible. Entrance requires climbing stairs on a brick walkway.

KC Shane brings you a powerful soul, folk, rock fusion that will get you in your feelings. He is an independent singer, songwriter, poet, artist, & social justice activist living and working in Sacramento, CA who also happens to be a transgender man. He is originally from a small town in Indiana, where he began creating music in 2004 at age 14, but has been living and working in Sacramento since 2012. KC grew up listening to all different genres of music and found inspiration in each one. He creates a "genre fusion" and lives out of the box when it comes to creating as well as how he lives his life. Friends and fans say his sound reminds them of City & Colour, Sam Smith, Tracy Chapman, Iron & Wine, James Taylor, Alice in Chains (unplugged), and other alternative 90's musicians. https://linktr.ee/kcshanemusic

Eli Conley is an indie folk singer-songwriter, teaching artist, and activist based in Sacramento, California. He makes music for queer and trans folks, justice seekers, and anyone who doesn’t fit easily in a box. Eli's voice is tender and heartfelt, with melodies and that can leave you feeling teary-eyed yet hopeful. As a queer transgender man from the South, his songs tell stories that aren’t always reflected in roots music. https://www.eliconley.com/

Briget Boyle's songs are compelling reminders that healing and redemption are coming. With gritty, vulnerable lyrics, pristine vocals, and driving playing on her antique Gibson J45, Briget’s 90s rock-tinged songs center the truth-telling power of the human voice. Sincerity is magnetic and Briget's songs often inspire listeners to put pen to paper, clear their throats, and dust off their old guitars. What will happen when you listen? https://linktr.ee/brigetboyle

In honor of Women’s History Month, Ashkenaz will pay homage to The Women Who Built Ashkenaz, with a night of performances, honoring the many women who have played an integral role in Ashkenaz’s success over the last 50 years.

This special event will pay tribute to the female pioneers who have shaped and strengthened our community over the years, specifically those involved in the formative transition of Ashkenaz into the nonprofit that it is today. From music and dance to community building, these women have left a lasting impact on Ashkenaz and beyond.

We'll hear from trailblazing musicians, dancers, and community leaders who will share their stories and experiences as the founding members of the board of directors at Ashkenaz and leaders of the huge transition that transpired after the death of our founder, David Nadel. Be inspired by their passion, creativity, and drive as they share what they've learned, and the legacy they've built.

Enjoy live music, dance performances, and a special reception to commemorate the evening. Connect with fellow members of the community, and engage in conversation about the role of women in shaping our shared cultural heritage.

Come be a part of this historic celebration and honor the women who have made Ashkenaz the vibrant and thriving community it is today!

Oddity:

Hailing from the East Bay, Oddity is a multi-faceted musician and songwriter seeking refuge in the intersections of jazz, hip-hop and neo-soul. Her experience as a transgender woman of color is inextricably woven into her music: at once an affirmation of life, a dissociative lament, a vengeful anthem, a desperate cry for change. At an ideal session Oddity would chef up a progression over a laid back beat, improvise a hook, let the band vibe for a minute before returning with a brooding trombone solo. YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy1rbNg_LDY Instagram: @oddity.mp3

Adrian West Band:

Oakland-based four-piece acoustic rock ensemble. Think Paul Simon meets Dave Matthews Band. A fun mix of originals, covers and instrumentals spanning acoustic rock, jazz & classical styles. Ever the realist, Adrian takes a peculiar delight in setting serious topics to uplifting music. www.adrianwest.com

Eli Conley & Briget Boyle - Livestream Concert & Conversation

Zoom

Join us for a livestream concert and conversation with singers, songwriters, and teaching artists Eli Conley & Briget Boyle. We'll play some songs and chat about our passions as queer musicians and educators.

A third of the proceeds will go to the Monkey House to help keep this vital independent music venue open in an uncertain time!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Eli Conley titled his sophomore album Strong and Tender, but he might well have been describing himself. On stage he’s an earnest yet funny storyteller. His songs address big themes like gender, aging, and death through the concrete and immediate details of daily life: a stolen truck, a flopping fish, a dime in the pocket.

Sliding Scale $10-20

A SPECIAL NOTE FROM THE BACK ROOM:

Thank you for your interest in this show. This show is part of our outdoor concert series, which is very different in atmosphere and logistics from our indoor shows.

Under the circumstances, we recommend masks, even though we are outside. We hope that you are vaccinated, although we do not require it for our outdoor shows. We will continue to socially distance our seats, but you may rearrange them to your liking. And those seats will be standard folding chairs - no comfy couches outside, but they will be comfortably shaded. Only 60 tickets will be sold, and we expect all or most of them to be bought in advance. (Reimbursement for cancellation is guaranteed with 24-hour notice, and rain may cause a cancellation from our end). If a show is sold out, you may contact Sam via email (sam@backroommusic.com) for permission to bring your own seats (and be charged at the "door" instead of in advance).

Please keep in mind that late afternoons can be chillier than expected, even on a warm spring day, especially when sitting still, so bring an extra layer! Cups of water will be available, but it might be a good idea to bring your own drinks/snacks.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING LIVE MUSIC!

Garden Party

Tickets: https://bit.ly/GardenPartyOct1 7:00PM - Doors 7:30PM - Rob Jamner 8:10PM - Sophia Raven Rose 8:50PM - Briget Boyle Garden Party presents its first ever backyard concert, featuring songwriters Briget Boyle, Sophia Raven Rose, and Rob Jamner. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair, some food and drink, and get ready to get cozy with a night of original music. We ask that all attendees be fully vaccinated. Please remember to bring a mask, and wear it when you are not eating or drinking Briget Boyle’s background ranges from the folk music of the Balkans to the folk music that surrounds her on the West Coast of the United States. A prolific songwriter, vocalist, and guitar player based in Oakland, California, Briget recently released her second solo album, The Next Line. The record was hailed as a “fascinating and gripping listen” by Gabriel Aikins of Substream Magazine. Sophia Raven Rose is a singer-songwriter currently based out of Portland, Oregon. Her music is heartfelt pop with folk, jazz, and country influences. She is a classically trained vocalist who has been writing music since she was young. She released her first EP in February 2021. Rob Jamner (they/them) is a genderfluid, genrefluid songwriter and poet. They thrive on ambiguity, playing with expectations in their music. Some moments are catchy and cathartic, others are surprising and sophisticated, but everything comes together to make a singular, distinctive sound. Passionate about building community, Rob frequently collaborates with other artists to bring songs to life.
