“The Songs On ‘Heartbreak Residue’ Sound Like A Novel Set To Music. ” - J. Poet — East Bay Express

Heartbreak Residue, the new LP from Bay-Area songwriter and activist Briget Boyle is a record that is ripe with raw, honest emotion. Buoyed by propulsive percussion and shimmering electric guitar, Boyle paints melodic pictures of the pivotal moments in life. Told with an eloquent economy of language, she speaks to the universal human experience. The tales written in this melodic jewelbox journal are imbued with a bittersweet nostalgia, yet they are far from maudlin. Rather, Boyle’s gift of a voice, leaping effortlessly from aching and intimate, to a soaring, razor-edged flash of power, rings with such a purity of sentiment that the listener is immediately drawn into her world, soon to find themselves shouting along with every chorus.

Briget Boyle: vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion Tim Silva: vocals Genesis Fermin: drums David Wellerstein: bass, percussion Jacob Light: electric guitars, synth

Michael Bang: piano (1, 4, 8) Juliana Graffagna: accordion (1) Jan Fidelis: hand claps (6) Lewis Patzner: cello (5, 9, 10) Vicki Randle: vocals (8) Karen Tobin: vocals (6)

The Next Line is the culmination of three years of songwriting and self-exploration. At the end of 2017, Briget left her day job as the production manager of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir to pursue her music career and to record and release this album. She teamed up with producer Michael Shiono, and Michael and Briget were able to take her songs, full of potential but not yet complete, and open them up to find their new sound. The Next Line, full of energetic and vibey tunes, features some of the Bay Area's finest players, including Kyle Caprista, Geneva Harrison, Kimiko Joy, Ben Misterka, Jon Monahan, and James DePrato.
